Here are some of the new releases coming out today.
Bulletboys – From Out Of The Skies
Marq Torien returns with his 12th album under the Bulletboys moniker, the album was recorded at Dave Grohl’s 606 Studios, and features the backing vocals of Eagles Of Death Metal’s Jesse Hughes.
The Sword – Used Future
When I interviewed the band’s guitarist Kyle Shutt a few years back, he quickly corrected me that the band was more than just a stoner band. He alluded to the fact that they just write whatever and if it sounds cool the go with it. If you look into each of their releases you will find a band that does experiment, and try to push their boundaries every album. Used Future, is further proof of the band just trying to be a solid rock band.
The Absence – A gift For The Obsessed
The Absence is a seasoned Flordia death metal band who were guests on the Talking Metal podcast years ago. It’s so great to see they are still putting out killer music. This is their first full-length release sine 2010 and is the first to feature their current lineup. Led by founding members Stewart and Jeramie Kling (drums) along with longtime bass player Mike Leon (Soulfly, Havok, Arsis), the group now features the high-flying guitar work of Joey Concepcion (Jasta, Armageddon) and Taylor Nordberg (Soilwork, Ribspreader), who made their debut on the band’s self-released digital single, “Septic Testament,” in 2016.
Auri – Auri
Here is a head-scratcher for me, if the core members of a known band (Tuomas Holopainen and Troy Donockley of Nightwish), why release a side project that sounds like your main band? Wouldn’t that detract from your “day job”? Or would this be considered Nightwish lite? In any event, it seems like they have plenty of symphonic metal to go round for multiple projects.
Monster Magnet – Mindfucker
The Dave Wyndorf fronted band returns with their 10th album and the first studio album of original material since 2013’s The Last Patrol. The band from New Jersey delivers all of that rock n roll goodness you’ve become accustomed to hearing from them.
