I have always seen White Wizzard as being at the forefront of the retro-heavy metal bands that have sprung up in the last decade. I have had the privilege of interviewing several current and former members of the band, and have become friendly with more than one of them, exchanging messages on a semifrequent basis.
A few days ago lead singer Wyatt “Screamin Demon” Anderson posted the following on social media:
Which lead me to instantly keep on the lookout for any comments by Jon Leon, the band’s mastermind if you will. Regardless of what you think about Jon, he has always managed to write solid material, and put together some pretty good lineups. Sure enough I later found this on social media:
Well the time has come.
I started White Wizzard in late 2007 a little over 10 years ago.
With the first line up we crafted a great EP that sadly had too much
talent in one band to last…..
From there….I wrote 4 full length albums I am very proud of and had some fantastically talented musicians
that played on them.
Regardless of the internet bullshit written about me or the band, it was formed in the spirit of the music I loved and
It has always been about the music to me.
I feel all of our work has been world class and not only do I feel it is the best and most consistent in the “classic metal revival” genre so to speak…
But I feel our last and final album Infernal Overdrive can hang with anything put out the past 20 years in rock and metal.
I am very proud of the work this project has done. I feel it can and will stand the test of time.
But time does pass and some things run their course.
So unfortunately I have to announce that White Wizzard is over.
There will be no more albums or live shows. The last album is it. I am glad we got to do it.
I am proud of the latest video for Chasing Dragons and I wish all members of the band past and present well
in their musical and personal journeys.
For me, a new ticket and a new ride must be bought and taken.
So as this journey ends, a new one begins.
This will be my last post about this. It is time to end Jon Leon as well.
Keep making music and loving it, because there is not much else in this world that is as real and special.
All the best and to the fans, thank you.
What is most alarming about Jon’s statement, is the phrase “Time to end Jon Leon”. I realize that Leon isn’t Jon’s real name, but does that mean this is the end of this persona? Will he be recording under a different name now? Or is there something more than this, are there other issues we are not aware of, and this cryptic message is his way to ask for help? I personally hope this isn’t the case, I hope Jon is well, and if that isn’t the case, I hope those around him take note and help him out.
The band had recenetly released a video for the track “Chasing Dragons” off of their latest album Infernal Overdrive.
I have dedicated well over 10 hours to help promote White Wizzard and the extended family, and will continue to do so. No matter what any of the former members of the band do, I will be more than happy to help promote their music. Thank you to each and every one of you for your music, I will not forget it anytime soon. To paraphrase, “my metal heart will never die”. Long live the music of White Wizzard.
