We’ve all heard the debate, either “it’s not Dokken without George” or “I don’t like George outside of Dokken”, but that always leads me to believe that people really aren’t checking out his entire catalogue. In the case of George, I do realize he’s releasing material in an old school fashion, as in how the Beatles and others did in the 60s, he’s releasing albums what seems like every six months. I’m not even up with absolutely everything, but here are some tracks that I think are worth checking out.
The late great Ray Gillen was out of Badlands, and George was releasing his first solo album Sacred Groove, this track still gives me goosebumps when listening to it.
Lynch/Pilson is a project George and his former Dokken bandmate Jeff Pilson put together, this album Wicked Underground is very strong throughout, I would argue it is some of his best work he’s ever released, it shows that these two have great chemistry, and get the best out of each other.
Although I’ve only heard one track off of this, it sounds great, Ultraphonix is a project George has put together with Living Colour’s Corey Glover, a man who’s voice is on par with George’s bombastic guitar skills.
KXM is a project that I was privy to about half a year before it was officially announced. How many labels can you place on this band? Power trio, and supergroup come to mind. I know that this band isn’t for everyone, but they have in my opinion some pretty cool tracks to offer.
What most people know him for is Lynch Mob, their first album Wicked Sensation is probably the release that most people know, but I feel that their second album, the self titled one, with Robert Mason on vocals, is actually better. “The Secret” ends the album, and it is quite possibly the best overall Lynch Mob song, it gives you everything you love by the four components of the band.
