I have been a fan of Ray West and his voice, since the first Spread Eagle album. I always felt they were unfairly pigeonholed due to when the band released their debut. But I have played both of their albums ad nauseum over the years. Then came an episode of the show Burn Notice, where I heard a familiar voice, on a track called “Novacane”, I instantly thought I know that voice, but with the music being heavier, with a bit of an industrial feel, and with a rhythm closer to Korn, I didn’t place it immediately until I did some research. A few months later I picked up All Pointz West, which being a fan of his work, I instantly loved, and as you might expect, I still play songs off of the album frequently.
Oh, I did skip over one thing, Ray was one of my first ever interviews in college, and to this day, it is probably the interview that embarrasses me the most, as I could not stop coughing. Regardless what I did, it was non-stop. He was still cool to me throughout, something I’ve always appreciated. In any event, when I heard about Weapons Of Anew a while back, I was instantly pumped. They have just released a video for the track “Killshot”, which reminds me of Killswitch Engage with much more melodic vocals.
