FLYING V DOCUMENTARY TO BE RELEASED ON SEPTEMBER 11TH

The Flying V is one of the most iconic guitars in music history. It has been played by scores of guitarists, including some of the most influential players of all time. Like Jimi Hendrix, James Hetfield, Michael Schenker and Dave Mustaine. How many times do you think of a band like Scorpions, Judas Priest, Accept, Megadeth, Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Arch Enemy, and instantly think about a Flying V?

Whether it’s the dueling Flying V attack of Accept going “Fast As A Shark”, early Kill Em All Metallica or quintessential 80s videos like “Rock You Like A Hurricane”, if you’re a fan of hard rock, or any form of metal, you’ve most definitely seen a Flying V.

The guitar was developed in the late 50 by Gibson Guitars, and along with the Les Paul, Explorer and SG, changed how music sounded and looked forever. Sure you have players like Hendrix, Dave Davies or Keith Richards that have played a Flying V over the years. Perhaps blues players like Albert King instantly pop into your mind when thinking about the body style. But no genre has taken to this shape like hard rock and metal players.

The aggressive body style instantly grabbed players like Paul Stanley Of Kiss, Michael and Rudolf Schenker, and KK Downing Of Judas Priest. Influencing future generations players to pick up their own Flying V. Thrash metal guitarist like James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Kerry King of Slayer, and Eric Peterson of Testament where part of that next wave that exploded on the scene and helped preserve the Flying V’s importance.

Nowadays, you have Gibson, as well as companies like Jackson, ESP, Dean, Schecter and others that continue to release their version of the Flying V. For a guitar that was one unacceptable, and discontinued, this documentary is proof that the Flying V isn’t going away any time soon.
